Here is an outline that summarizes what I expect in the outline.
- What is an outline? (no points lost)
- Not a paper
- Text, not graphics
- Hierarchical list of topics and concepts organized in a list
- Complete sentences are optional
- Complete facts and ideas are important, even if you don't have your complete collection of ideas
- Not a list of topics repeated multiple times to fill space
- Hierarchy is important
- Show me that you are organizing the concepts!
- It should not be a simple list of facts. They must be organized
- Interesting facts and ideas
- You must include lots of facts and ideas
- Interesting facts and ideas are those that fit together and tell me something clear about the subject
- Try to argue an interesting opinion regarding your subject and use the ideas and facts to support it
- Grading outlines
- Goal - mostly to prevent folks from waiting till the last minute
- Grading: A = 3 pages plus a list of references
- B = omitting either a page or the list of references, or an outline that is short on ideas or interesting facts
- C = 2 pages and no references, or one that has no ideas or interesting facts
- If you submitted source code I counted it to your 3 pages, though I require a certain level of coding style and commenting
I will accept revised outlines (yielding revised grades) before classes end. If you give it to me sooner, I'll try to give you feedback that will improve your grade on your project presentation.
Revised outlines are different from late outlines. A late outline loses points for being late, and gives away your opportunity to submit a revised outline.
